Dr. Terzaghi conducts research on plant cellular and molecular biology, genomics and whole plant physiology. He will present some recent studies on the molecular basis of hybrid vigor in plants. Hybrid vigor is a well-known phenomenon that is essential for agriculture, yet is poorly understood. The availability of genomic sequences for several varieties of rice and Arabidopsis has allowed it to be studied at the whole genome level.
